About

I was born in 1965 and have treed a weird and wonderful life, some of it good some of it bad and when I reflect, I see and feel how my life has become my soul song.  I like who I am and I like my life, it’s wonderfully simple.  Living my life,  means there is more to add to my soul song, and so the journey continues.

This website/blog is about doing the things that make me happy, sharing those things and hopefully inspiring others.  My life has become yoga, I like to walk with my dogs and cycling is my first choice of transport, I do all this in an underprivileged, urban environment.   Here, there is very little in the way of picturesque roaming green fields, beaches and oceans, mountains and open spaces, so I make the best of what I have and try to do it as cheaply as I can.

I have been around and in the fitness industry since 1984, starting with participation, leading to professional posts; Sports Therapist, a personal trainer, studio fitness instructor and an experienced mat based, Pilates teacher since 2002.   I spent 6 years as a professional podium dancer for a small collective of Reading underground dj’s and in 2012 retired from professional pole dancing.

I walk every day with my dogs Asbo, Rosie-Moomoo and Trixiebells.  We start from home, urban trekking, to reach a little bit of mother nature, either at the Kennet & Avon Canal or the woodlands in Rabsons Park.  Walking is one of the best physical activities, its free and accessible, and I would like to blog about walking with my wonderful K9 companions.

July 17th 2013 I gave up the car, congestion, being skint and the stress.  Have chosen cycling to be my main transport, so will blog about cycling.

Started dabbling with yoga from 2004 and in 2010 started to take the whole thing a bit more seriously, becoming certified in Freestyle Fitness Yoga.  I attended an Iyengar Yoga school for 18 months then went on to practice Ashtanga Yoga for 12 months.  I then went on to practice Sivananda Yoga for 12 months, with regular visits to the Putney Ashram in London and at the same time, exploring Vanda Scaravelli Inspired Yoga.  I have completed the British School of Yoga, Hatha Teacher 200hr  and the Advance Yoga Teacher qualification.  I am now studying under Paul Harvey, a lifetime student to TKV Desikachar, who was the son and student of Sri T Krishnamacharya.  Paul Harvey is the founder of Centre of Yoga Studies.  My studies of yoga are of a personal journey, so for the present time, I have stopped teaching, so I can commit to my spiritual journey.  I am also involved in prerequisite studies in preparation for, ‘The Professional Studies 121 Yoga Teaching and Therapeutic Healthcare Programme’, under the guidance of Paul Harvey.

I have a committed personal practice which I take to my sacred space, twice a day 6 days a week, early morning and afternoon sessions.  The morning practice is about what I need and nurturing my spiritual needs, the afternoon practice is about what my practice needs.  My practice includes lots of yoga philosophy and psychology studying, which guides me towards studying myself.  Much of which I will blog about, mainly because it helps me to retain the information.

Last of all, I live a yogi-vegan lifestyle, I will begin studying Ayurveda late 2016 and so sharing as much as I can about food.

Yogashanti.
